Dear John,

I believe I've missed half of my life because I was born in 1983. I never got to see your creations in progress, let alone a live taping of an interview with you. Still, I remember the first time I saw you. It was when I was about 6 or 7 years old, and people had been telling me beforehand that these round sunglasses made me look like 'John Lennon'. I was like, 'Who is that?', until I saw an old television show that had you as a guest. I had asked who the man with the glasses was, and my mom told me, 'That's John Lennon'. I never knew how important your music would become to me.

Years later, my music teacher showed us the old Ed Sullivan show taping with you and your band on there. I finally connected you to my life and thus began my love for your work. It was a time when I had no direction or high hopes for the future; you gave me that happiness and direction through your music. I've even had a few laughs about how I actually thought I could play guitar beautifully as soon as I picked it up after watching you play. I have a guitar, I just don't play it now. I'm going to learn soon, because I'm getting so lost in your work again that it gives me inspiration. Now that I've written "The Odyssey" for you, I should stop rambling and end my letter.

I hope you're very happy John; you deserve it. For all the love and peace you promoted, and the guts you had to stand up for your beliefs, kudos. You were a great man, John Lennon. I hope you enjoyed your journey through life.

Sincerely,

Kayla Dugger
