If I wasn't so
damn happy with my life right now, I swear to GOD I'd
be an alcoholic. This shit is gonna turn my ass gray
by 30. I'll start with the good news:
I have my
first meeting with Paramount a week from tomorrow at
11:15 AM. So now all the biggies who came out to the
last show have responded accordingly. Suzanne De Passe
(Quincy Jones old partner) with De Passe
Entertainment, called and asked for a pitch (and I'm
already working on it) - Anne Maney (head of casting
at Fox) was two-fold: Recommending my show to the
Aspen judge, and bringing two development execs to the
next show, and now this. I was incorrect before, Grace
Wu was not at the show, so nothing from NBC right
now.
So what does this
mean!!! I DONT KNOW!!! LOL. It's news that
elicits the reaction of: "WAHOO!!! (2 seconds pass)
What's that mean!?!" Heh. Which is basically what I
said to Charlotte when she told me. All it boils down
to is that they're interested, and they wanna meet
with me. It's the first step. They want to get a feel
for who I am, and probably talk about what they
saw on the 12th. I'll be grillin' Charlotte for the
next week trying to make sure I say all the right
things. Then again, I'm in the driver's seat a bit. We
didn't bug them to get a meeting, they asked us for
one. I can't tell you how nice that is. Now to the
reason for the entry:
They moved the
deadline for picking the finalists for the one-man
show category to the END OF THE YEAR,
as opposed to November 30th. As I mentioned in the
last entry the Aspen judge Alisa was sick and took the
recommendation of Anne for the callback. Anne loved
it. Unfortunately, yet another judge has been sick as
well and they've had to cancel many showcases last
week. It's put them behind schedule - and is making
rescheduling a bitch. It's really all a formality as
we are assured the chance for the callback in front of
the judges no matter what. Alisa said specifically to
Charlotte: "We are not overlooking you..." so it's
just a matter of time. And lord knows I'm great with
free time eh?
Well, the devil
spawn of Super Monkey Ball has been a good distraction
for a day or so (I'll get to that in a moment), but I
woke up today ready to write, and have had an
immensely productive outburst. I cannot express how
much easier it is to make things funny, when there's
no limitations of static TVs and 5 people standing
STILL. It really puts in perspective just how
difficult writing The Trinitrons live show was. Now
however, it's all wide open and I'm literally laughing
out loud at some of the situations. I finally see
it! Now can I make you guys?
Well I'm not
pitching it on the internet, heh. I actually started
to write out a synopsis and realized THAT's not the
smartest idea. But just to give you guys a reference,
I'm playing every role and there are no TVs. We are 5
completely different people, done with split scrrens,
stand-ins, and magic. Much like the Klumps and
Multiplicity. The great part about this, is just like
in the live show, we can poke fun of the fact that
it's just one person. It's this added dimension these
other "1 man, 5 parts" projects never had. It's
because it's never been tried as a sitcom. And it's
making some of the one liners, and joke set-ups
basically unheard of. I can't tell you how rare it is
to have a situation comedy, that as I'm writing it I'm
saying: "Jesus, that's NEVER been done before. This
entire joke and set-up is completely original." And
all the while Charlotte's just laughin' at me.
Basically the ULTIMATE "I told you so" from
her...
She's talked
sitcom with me being all 5 parts since oh...FEBRUARY.
I have disregarded her and said: "I don't see it". I
certainly see a development deal, since 4tvs shows so
damn much that I'd be a good risk, but making The
Trinitrons an ACTUAL sitcom? No way.
Well, WAY. I see
it so clear now. It honestly took me completing the
live show, and watching the characters. They write
themselves. It's the same feeling I had with The
Boyles. Those characters were SO well defined in my
mind, that simply putting them in a situation made 60
episodes possible. Now what I've shown in the live
part of the act so far doesn't completely show the
whole picture. But as I stated previously these
characters have deep foundations. Foundations I almost
wondered why I was creating when it was just for the
live show, but now I'm quite happy I did. It's paying
off big-time. And guys, I'm writing a pilot for
television. We've already been approached for it. The
interest is there, and I'm filling that void - how
intense is that? Again, I can't tell you how different
it feels, knowing that what you're creating already
has an interest in the community. Eveyrone we pitch
this to will already have seen the live show. They'll
already know those characters, and will be wanting to
hear more. What a situation to be in!!
Man, should
I just include in every entry from this moment
on:
"CAN YOU FREAKIN' BELIEVE WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW?!"
'Cause I don't see that sentiment fading anytime soon.
Now balance that with, the expert levels on Super
Monkey Ball, and you basically know just where
I stand.
HAHA.
So the
GameCube was released this past Sunday. It
simply doesn't get any better than system
launches. I pray that this tradition
continues for the rest of my life. Every 5
years for the rest of my life, I want to
be waiting at 5:45 in the morning in a
line at Target to get the new Nintendo. I
then want to balance my stresses with
HUGE life changing crossraods, with
getting a monkey in a ball to the end of
the goal in 30 seconds. It's a mix between
that old wooden Labyrinth game, marble
madness - and liquid crack. Ha.
God
love creative game
makers.
It keeps me young, I'll tell you that.
I can put "beating
level 16 on expert mode" and "writing pilot for
network" in 2 corners of my mind and thankfully not
waste TOO much time. I always have to "produce"
content, more than win at a videogame. Reason #37 not
to smoke pot. Those priorities will SWITCH in a
heartbeat. Heh.
But seriously, if
there are any gamers out there - get this game. You
can laugh at how "kiddie" it is, but rest assured
it'll grab your sack like a vice and squeeze the
sanity RIGHT out. Ha. It's THAT fun.
:-)
So because of this
most recent delay at the HBO Workspace (where the
Aspen callback will take place) - it will no longer be
my next show. We were waiting for that before we
proceeded with any more bookings. So now, it looks
like the Largo will have that distinction. Another
nice industry hangout, and bound to get a few more
meetings and some more buzz a brewin'. That place
should fill like nobody's business on just the buzz
from The Comedy Store alone. Still waiting on when Bob
Saget will be playing the Laugh Factory next, as I'll
be playing the same night. I still absolutely
believe Bob will do this, and do it THAT night. Just a
matter of WAITING.
Who'dve thunk
patience would become one of my virtues?
