On a day that
I looked forward to because of the
"fictional reunion of John & Paul..."
(which wasn't as bad as I thought it would
be), I book my first gig. When
I hung up the phone I actually
got goose bumps. It was a nice wave of
euphoria. That's the way it should
be...and it was.
The Cobalt Cafe...in 3
days. Talked to the owner after not
getting ahold of him...well shit - here's
the entry:

BAND - DOING A 45 MINUTE SET, AND THUS
MY FIRST LA GIG.
THANK THE
LORD. There was a cancellation, and
there you have it. February 4th, 2000.
Fuckin A Im
excited. Dave
talked about a Wednesday maybe where I
would play, and if I brought more than
25 people I
would get 20% of
the door. So this isnt a money
place, but its not time to worry
about that. I have a
beginning.
Let me tell you, that that's not
how it usually happens. This may be the quickest: "ok"
I've ever gotten. But I just happened to call at
the right time and he was cool. I have a feeling
it'll be a month before I play again after this,
simply because of how "booked" everyone seems to
be...but you never know.
I have 45 minutes, and
I honestly don't have a clue what 3 sets I'll do.
I don't think "offending" people will be a problem
here, so it's all about being as entertaining as
possible in 45 minutes. I'll figure it out. As well,
for those of you who have seen the show (or watched
the little clips), tell me what your favorite sets
are. What you felt were most entertaining. I'll most
likely take your thoughts WELL into consideration
as I try to pck out some tunes.
Oh, and did you notice the 20% of
the door? Yeah...so I'll obviously be doing this room
for free. I couldn't get 25 people to come to a
show in COLUMBUS. And I actually had 24 years to gain
friends. Heh heh. It's exciting nonetheless. As was
the case in Columbus, I'll be scrounging for months
for the elusive weekly gig. ANYWHERE, ANY NIGHT.
A gig that I can promote to other agents & so
on. Basically gain a following. I never found a place
in Columbus, but then again my time was cut a bit
short.
I guess that's really about
it. Not like giving directions to the place would be
of any good. Heh heh. If you do happen to be in LA
this Friday you can give a call to the bar for
directions.
Oh, and I did a little 2TV action
to celebrate the first show. Hope you enjoy it.
Well, thank you. As the days roll
on, I can't help but sit in amazement how things fall
into place sometimes. When you look at the original
journal
page (there's now 2 - for the month of February), it
seems almost scripted. Who knows what will happen
next.
